Today I went to Savor in Noe Valley. I have been going there for atleast 10 years (or so it seems). Today marks the very last time I will ever go there.
To start we were going to be seated by the kitchen, but we asked to sit all the way in the back. We proceed to sit down then we are promptly asked to move one table over since the employees like to sit there for their breaks. We are fine with that though I feel that it kinda odd to have to move so the servers get what they want. After that the service was inattentive, I had to get up to ask for butter for my toast. I waited for cream and a coffee refill for 20 minutes. the server never came over to ask if we ok or needed anything.
the food was bland though it came out quickly. This was a major disapointment since i have always been satisfied with service. something must have changed since the last time I visited, over a year ago.
This was not what made me decide to go elsewhere. When we were finishing up some servers came over and sat down at the table we had moved from to eat. One of the servers rams the chair into mine without saying pardon or excuse me. So we pay our bill and get ready to go. We move the chair back to leave and it moves their chair a bit. what we get in return is four glares.
WTF? Since when did the place go to shit? Even if this was just one bad day, I do not wish to return to find out.

There was hardly any pork in the dish. It was mostly cabbage and fried egg. The flavor was average at best. For $6.95 at most Chinese restaurants you get an abundance of veggies, as well as meat. Not at this place. I highly recommend going to one of the other numerous Chinese restaurants when in the Sunset district.

they use yucca a lot (called manioc, actually mandioca, here)...

chipa guazu, which is a corn and cheese based bread (think cornbread, less sweet, with cheese)

sopa paraguaya (actually not a soup at all), similar to chipa guazu, yet more corn, no cheese, whole kernels

fried chopped meat with manioc in a patty

empanada, oh so many varieties... i personally like the oven baked spinach empanada

pascualina, which is like a giant empanada stuffed with about 7 green veggies and some cheese. i make mine whole wheat.

mbeju, a pancake like patty with a dry cheese (it is melted yet makes your mouth feel dry afterwards, weird) and corn meal i believe.

milanesa, which is a fried breaded chicken or beef cutlet.

the beef in famous in this part of the world, and the bife de chorizo is damn good.

overall, the traditional food is fried and highly beef driven. there are heaps of delicious local fruits and veggies; my faves are the mangoes, watermelon, and papaya
I opened it up today. It smells as wonderful as ever.
However, I noticed that moisture has condensed
on the upper side of the jar's top... obviously from the

Unfortunately, my sister, who lives with me, isn't into spicy food, and my husband gets tired of Indian on most nights, so we end up eating out a lot ($30 for a meal for two...ugh)

I like to cook on Monday or Tuesday and have food to eat through the week... 2-3 dals, vegetables, 2-3 meat dishes and rice, and vary my meals. But as I mentioned, the family is getting bored.

Does anyone know of different cuisines or flavors that would work WITH some of the indian dishes, but don't have a characteristic "indian food" flavor to it? I was thinking maybe some Chinese recipes, Greek... but really don't know where to start. That way I can still eat at home, and everyone else has things they can take for lunches as well without resorting to Easy Mac.
Ok, ok, it was only $2.60, but it was the principle of whole thing. Aleman and I had a late dinner Friday night. Our original decision was to go to Ramblas, but since we found rockstar parking in front of Cafe Picaro, we decided to check it out. Tapas was great, but hailing down our waiter was excruciating. When dinner was done, we searched for our server. No where to be found. I had to go up to the counter myself and ask for the bill. I used my credit card to pay for the bill and the tip. They took my 7.00 tip and changed the 7 to a 9 and the 0 to a 6. Not cool!<

I will not go here again. So what if the food was good. If they are dishonest, none of you should spend your money there. There are much better Tapas Bars in the city which are honest and eager to please.

Hello Everybody!
I'm new here. Thought I should introduce myself. I love food. All kinds. And Aleman, I drink beer too! *wink*

So, here's my dilemma...
I now live in Central Oregon and have very limited access to ethnic foods. We've got Thai, Indian, Mexican (too many!), Italian and then of course, a couple of fabulous, Pacific Northwest micro-breweries (I know, not ethnic, but it's beer for Aleman!). So anyway...

I have friends in SF and visit at least twice a year, but I'm overdue for my Ethiopian fix!! Help me! Talk to me! Anybody have any lately? What was it? I'm a vegetarian, but I'll listen to any and all stories of Ethiopian-food-coma bliss. What's the name of the restaurant on Haight? I can't remember.

So, yes- please wax poetic for me... I'm hungry!

*blowing kisses*

For an appetizer we had the Ocopa which was boiled potatoes with huakatay (creamy cilantro) sauce. The presentation of this dish was simple, but nice. For dinner I had the arroz chaufa which was Peruvian fried rice. That was really yummy and to drink I had ordered a chicha morada which is a flavorful type of juice drink that tasted like Christmas.

I'm new to this tribe, and in "getting acquainted with it," noticed that awhile back there was interest in having a potluck. I was hoping to revive this idea, as I think it'd be so much fun! Everyone here seems very cool indeed, and so I know I'd love meeting and sharing food with anyone else who'd be interested. (I will happily make food for the potluck, but can't host it since I have a tiny studio apartment.)

Anyone interested in trying this again?

It is very rustic italian cuisine with a small but thoughtful Italian and French wine list. It is a small ploace that does not take reservations but is worth the wait. Besides you can wait in the little chateau like area in the back which is seperate but nice as you can have dinner their as well.
